Elon Musk has reached a deal over fraud charges that will see him step down as electric automaker Tesla’s chairman of the board for at least three years and pay a US$20 million fine. But he will stay on as CEO.

The agreement eases pressure on Tesla’s embattled CEO, who faced potentially being barred from serving as an officer or board member of a publicly traded company as a result of the charges, which stemmed from a tweet by Musk about taking the company private.

“The settlements, which are subject to court approval, will result in comprehensive corporate governance and other reforms at Tesla - including Musk’s removal as chairman of the Tesla board -and the payment by Musk and Tesla of financial penalties” of US$20 million each, the Securities and Exchange Commission said in a statement https://www.scmp.com/news/world/united-states-canada/article/2166334/elon-musk-removed-tesla-chairman-will-remain-ceo

In a newly-released statement, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission has announced that in a new settlement reached after the commission sued Elon Musk for misleading Tesla shareholders, the tech magnate will have to step down as Tesla's chairman of the board of directors

First, look at SpaceX. Though rocket technology has been around for a while, it is Mr. Musk’s dedication in multiple technically-coupled areas that has really made it a success

"Elon Musk, through good news and bad, has kept Tesla in the news for years on end. Since 2008, Tesla has been in the news nonstop. The news cycle has gone through attacking Tesla to loving Tesla (the same journalists very commonly).

Elon Musk is the only reason that Tesla is still alive. He has generated unprecedented demand in an industry that no one wants to buy products from"

After him, they will surely need a person of that caliber to fulfill the void and carry the baton forward as Tim Cook did after Steve Jobs that continued the undisputed reign of Apple because if not then it will be disheartening to see an Engineering Marvel that changed the face of auto-industry sink

I highly doubt any of his companies can. They are all dependent on his brain

I agree, he has the expertise and his brain can calculate all the decisions that can be made and all the problems that arise. Unless he can translate all this on paper to everyone else, his companies won't survive. This is my impression. I may be completely wrong.

It will. Even though Musk has had to step down as CEO, he still effectively owns the company.

Tesla as a company is headed for bankruptcy, with or without Musk.

He will find ways to bend the rules and circumvent wherever possible. There is enough wiggle room in the requirements for him to scheme around and his newly required babysitters won't be able to keep him in line 100% of the time. Due to his personality

I hope that his companies are not as dependent on him as the media portrays. Think of any other company and the person who started it is not what comes up- it takes digging for example to see who started or even runs General Motors. The company’s survival isn't dependent on who made it.
