The Academy was at pains to promote an"intellectual" style of art. In contrast, say, to the"sensuous" style of the Rococo, the"socially-aware" style of French Realism, the"visual" style of the Impressionism, or the"emotional" style of Expressionism. It considered fine art to be an intellectual discipline, involving a high degree of reason, thus the"rationality" of a painting was all-important. Such rationality was exemplified by a work's subject-matter, its use of classical or religious allegory, and/or by its references to classical, historical or allegorical subjects. Careful planning - through preliminary sketching or use of wax models - was also valued.

The Arts Action Academy was inaugurated in the Fall of 2012 with a visit to the I-School, a New York City public high school. There, AAA led a class of teenage art-students through an introduction to creative activism in history, and shared current examples of art that works politically. After considering the real-world politics that they would like to influence, students developed their own creative activist projects in later classes. The AAA returned to to lead students in an ‘artivist’ critique – a traditional practice honed in art schools and adapted for the constructive criticism and support of creative projects designed to bring about social change.

Art Academia is a European art school for children and adults, and is also a working studio. The founder and instructor, Inna Polnar, is a professional artist who received her B.A. in Fine Arts at the Moscow University of Art in Russia. Influenced by her curriculum in Moscow, the guiding philosophy at Art Academia is based on a classical style of instruction with emphasis on theory, observation and execution.

I go to Art Academia to learn watercolor painting with Ina every Thursday night 7pm-9pm for the adult session. The time slot fits in my work schedule perfectly. It's really a relieving and inspiring experience and make Thursday my favorite day. I can see my skills are improving as time goes by. In addition, the location is very convenient. All the best restaurants in San macho are around.
