I'm curious on what people think about mental illnesses. Personally I think that mental illness is real. I struggle with mental illness, but I have also seen from personal experiences with friends that people do self diagnose for attention.

On one hand I think mental issues can be very real and difficult. Especially for people going through them and their close family and friends. However I also went through 4 years of therapy and rigourous drug regiments for depression and anxiety during high school and the beginning of college and I think that my psychiatrist and some of the therapists I saw hindered me far more than they helped me.

Yeah I understand. I had a counselor that was way more harm than help. It's all about finding what works for you coping.

I was just typing that very idea out. Antidepressants had a far worse effect on my life then the depression ever did. And therapists can often make you feel more messed up than you actually are in my experience

Yeah. I'm lucky to have found an antidepressant that works well for me, but I find smoking a bowl works so much better

Attention seeking usually lasts up until the person gets what they wants. Mental illness on the other hand is real and doesn't just go away when you're happy.
