A parliamentary inquiry has shut down the idea of lowering Australia's voting age.

On Friday, the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters tabled its report examining a Greens bill that would give 16 and 17-year-olds the option to vote."Despite trends in Europe and Latin America towards lowering the voting age, the committee is not convinced that it is warranted in Australia," it said.https://www.sbs.com.au/news/bill-to-lower-voting-age-to-16-shut-down-by-parliamentary-inquiry?fbclid=IwAR2YRrMP0Kzi3c2JV_bysNtilJuYmONISBAm3PYXgh4IxBrlUAjvBlY0DiM

I guess this is not the right time for that. Not because I am opposing young people having a voice but because I believe that they are not prepared for that yet.

Why are people so opposed to young people having a voice and having the option to register at 16 and retain compulsory voting at 18. I haven't seen a decent or thoughtful argument against. And for those who thoughtlessly argue about when u pay taxes you can vote - I don't hear you saying that retired people should no longer vote. Young people are more informed and politically aware than we ever were at that age so why not give them a chance.

Because they can't even clean their own rooms.Let alone look at policy reforms and choose someone to run a country. Based on rational policy .

Most kids can't even think for themselves let alone understand what they are voting for.
