There are countries that legalizes prostitution believing that decriminalization will rid the trade of the violence, disease and coercion that has always characterized it. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/07/23/decriminalising-prostitution-supposed-keep-sex-workers-safe/

It is said to give prostitutes the “agency” they require to lead healthy lives. Prostitution becomes a job “just like any other”. However, in Europe and much of the developing world, it has led to a boom in the trafficking of young women and girls.

What are your thoughts on legalizing prostitution? Does it really help?

Personally, I hope they ban prostitution worldwide. I can't see any good coming from it. Though I don't know any sex worker personally, I don't see how any would like that job.

The existence of prostitution anywhere is society's betrayal of women, especially those who are marginalized and vulnerable because of their sex, their ethnicity, their poverty, and their history of abuse and neglect. Prostitution is sexual harassment, sexual exploitation, often torture. I do agree that prostitution should be banned.

I doubt it would be easy to ban prostitution worldwide. It may be easier to put some rules on it. I think that is the intention of decriminalizing prostitution. Like with all things, rules can help keep people safe.

I have read that in places where criminal laws have been removed, sex workers felt more empowered to demand safer sex. I don't really understand the logic behind it but I am in support of what will make a better life for them.

I agree that prostitution should not be legalized. The consequence far outweighs the benefits.

Prostitution should not be legalized for obvious reasons. It will be the death of society if you see brothels around your neighborhood. It makes sex looks cheap.

This is the practice in Nevada, the only state in the United States where brothels are legal. Although legalization can also imply a decriminalized, autonomous system of prostitution, the reality is that in most 'legalized' systems the police control prostitution with criminal codes. Laws regulate prostitutes' businesses such as prescribing health checks and registration of health status.

I agree. It will give rise to promiscuity and I would guess the divorce rate would sky rocket.

Guys, it's not necessarily so bad. I have been to Amsterdam where you see brothels lined up and it's doesn't look cheap. The key is legalized but it doesn't mean that anybody can open one. The government would still regulate this so there would only be a certain number of prostitutes allowed.

If there are laws that require prostitutes to undergo health screening, that would be better. They also get protected better.

No amount of health screening or regulation will help. It will make any beautiful city look cheap.

I think the better solution is provide them with alternative work instead of decriminalizing prostitution.

It's a good idea but I doubt the prostitutes will take. They earn quite well doing what they do and unless you're giving them like a managerial position or CEO, it'll never measure up.
