The idea of moving vehicles at high speeds through low-pressure tubes has been around since 1909. But Elon Musk came up with an advanced method, focusing on the technological side, which he published in a whitepaper in 2013. The concept, in which commuters are whisked through a tube at speeds in excess of 700mph, has developed rapidly with inventors and investors giving their backing.

What do you think of this new innovation? Is this practical and can we really benefit from this?

How will you deal with thermal expansion? How will you deal with a vacuum loss without completely destroying the tube system? Thunderf00t and others have many legitimate concerns they have brought up that need to be answered before this tech is viable.

How is Hyperloop going to reduce congestion? Freight and people arrive at the destination station quicker, the bottleneck will always be local distribution by truck, taxi or metro!

Would rather sit in an aircraft tube above ground than a tube underground, especially for 5 hours or more.

How do you protect a delicate system hundreds of miles long from terrorism? Seems pretty vulnerable to me.

How will you deal with the fact that regular trains got more efficient and the vactrain is still and always will be nonviable because of the sheer costs?

How do you cool the object travelling in the tube/vacuum?

Well, I still think that Hyperloop is slightly more feasible than space-elevator. It may be better than normal trains pretty soon, but nowhere near the promised specs in the foreseeable future.

Commercial airplanes also travel at speeds of 1000 km/h and are piloted by humans.

So what was the max speed the pod in the test? Not the animation speed, that is hypothetical.
