Australians with severe eating disorders have access to a comprehensive treatment plan under Medicare for the first time, including up to 60 appointments with psychologists and dietitians.

Patients with the serious psychiatric conditions including anorexia and bulimia will be able to access up to 40 subsidised psychological services and 20 dietetic services each year from November 2019, the Morrison government announced on Sunday.

Can they do the same for Anxiety and Depression? We are losing in those stats too. Across the board (of gender and age)

There should be no time restrictions on the treatment for this condition nor for mental health this should be on going until the patient is stable and healthy.

Stop the publications of womens magazines. Eating disorders would be halved.

This is a good start, but would love to see the same happen for other psychiatric conditions.

Is the eating disorder related to obesity included? It is a health issue and should be.

But this is only for clinical psychologists - general psychologists who have the same training and have been treating patients with severe illnesses will not be able to under these new policies. Clinical psychs make up for under 10% of all psychologists so you are going to have a shortage of Medicare approved clinicians.

It is too late for someone I knew, I wish this had been implemented earlier, then maybe she wouldn't have died.

They shouldn’t have to wait till it gets serious. Early intervention needed. It’s a good start.

But it's in 11 months - what happens in the meantime???? How many people have to die?

Too late for ballet students back in the day who were continually told by their teachers they were fat. Just had to battle through the best way you could. Hopefully this has changed.

Would have been good if this had been implemented this year.
