Single-use plastic ban approved by EU Parliament

Drop file here to send
The European Union will move to ban single-use plastics with readily available alternatives like straws, cotton-buds.

The European Commission, the 28-nation EU's executive arm, proposed banning such items that it said account for 70 percent of the waste in the oceans and beaches.

The legislation which supporters want to take effect by 2021 must still be approved in negotiations involving the member states, parliament and the commission.

Do you think this will help our pollution issues?

Absolutely!! We should not make single use anything!! The issue is business knows that repeat customers make them money and now we live in a world where everything, even a $60,000 vehicle, is classed as disposable.
Will somebody please think of the children....

Yes! There should financial incentives for large companies to use more cardboard or other truly biodegradable packaging.. otherwise their greed will always see them choosing the cheaper option!

Great idea but more costly solutions will hit the poor hardest.

Yes. And extend the laws to limit plastic packaging by manufacturers. Much of which isn't even necessary. Unfortunately, the current Australian government is very regressive on any environmental issues.
