Australian government wants to follow the Germans' lead and impose financial penalties on major social media companies if they do not reduce volume of abusive contents and develop ways of identifying and measuring the amount of abusive content being posted and remove to ensure compliance.""Australian government wants to follow the Germans' lead and impose financial penalties on major social media companies if they do not reduce volume of abusive contents and develop ways of identifying and measuring the amount of abusive content being posted and remove to ensure compliance.

Do you think this is enough to fight cyberbullies? How do you think it should be handled?

Social media is unfortunately one of the tools that terrorist groups use to radicalize young people and racists use to spread violence and hatred and in case there are posts, these need to be taken down ASAP.

Reviewing potentially problematic posts and remove offending content within 24 hours is a good way to stop them. Illegal online hate speech needs to be addressed especially in recent terror attacks.

If you make something, you definitely have to take responsibility for it, regardless what comes out of it. It's like defects coming from a product. If a car is leaking something bad like oil or gas, the manufacturer definitely has to fix it. Same thing for social media platforms.

Social media platforms have a particular responsibility to address hate speech that has too often been allowed to flourish online. It is critical that efforts are taken by all online service providers and social networks to bring our communities closer together and to further crack down on those that spread violence and hatred online

Monitoring is a crucial way of informing effective interventions to counter online hate speech. Encourage others to use a similar monitoring approach to address the challenges of online hate speech. Report these people ASAP.

I don't think that the social media companies should bear the burden solely but I believe they can do a lot in terms of filtering their users.

There are a lot of emotional harm online hate speech can cause readers. I'm sure it is very easy to create a tool to detect hate speech with data analysis or something like that. I hope the governments can make a more stricter law that these social media platforms should follow.

The best way to combat online speech is to avoid social media interaction until you are mature enough to handle and report accordingly.

I agree! I think we should hold the parents accountable too. We should all know what our kids are doing online.

I think the government should play a big part in regulating online hate speech. Just like there are laws on newsprint, there should be laws on online speech. Though it'll probably be harder to penalize online speech.

I agree! Parents are accountable in the highest degree!

Social media needs to ban comments that are used for hate speech and terrorism. Terrorists use social media to recruit and that's just so wrong.

Somebody should create a better way to tracks these MF down and the FBI or whoever should really make an example out of them.

IBM also created an AI algorithm that tries to filter the profanity out of our messages and suggests more palatable alternatives. This is pretty good but if someone wants to put hate speech online, the suggestion will just be ignored. IBM should probably just use the AI algorithm to sensor the hate speech.
