My mother told me I wasn't college material. I graduated with an Associate's degree....Summa Cum Laude. While raising a family and working. Lesson learned: Don't believe everything you hear.

I was told by a parent I was a zero at the age of 9. I tell my children everyday how proud I am and they are loved. You have the power to break the cycle of shame and powerlessness of abuse.

In 3rd grade my teacher took away my name and renamed me"it." She instructed the class that I was to be called"it." How bad can a 9 y/o be to do that to a kid?

My mother was told by my second grade teacher, I would never amount to anything. My mother told me that and II was confused, but I worked hard at many things, traveled the world, had a beautiful daughter and I became an RN. Not bad for someone who never would amount to anything.

I've been told my entire life im not good enough first by family then teachers and ex lovers. I'm sure I tell myself everyday. My husband and our amazing child show me everyday that i am enough that just waking up and saying good morning is enough that just cuz I cry and can't handle too much at once that I'm enough and that i never have to worry about it or change who I am.

My life changed in a single moment too, my mum told me I was the least pretty of her 3 daughters. It stayed with me for more than 40 years.

Just as damaging as being told you are way more brilliant, tallented and gifted than you are which ends up crippling you any time you have a minor disappointment. Both are unacceptable when dealing with children.

What about these parents that have said awful terrible things to their child and fists upside your head it's a miracle I'm still kicking at 60, just not as high , it sucks but I made it through , and forgave but sometimes I don't forget , and wonder why? I suppose they didn't get love either.
