There is a question that has been tossed around by philosophers and art critics for decades: how much should an artist's intention affect your interpretation of the work?
This discussion is set to be extendable. After it expires, the content will remain, but all guests will be removed. After that if any guests decide to join it, more days will be added to the discussion

I do believe that art is a reaction of everyday's life. It might be coincidence or intended will of its author. No matter what exactly it is it would not be an art until defined as such.

I don’t really know because everybody determines there own interpretation. I would hope that the intention would be present.

Sadly, as with most things, the 'meaning of art' has long been dictated by the Western world and Colonial power systems. To this day it dismisses intuitive art and African art as 'separate' genres. Perceptions of Art are thankfully gradually changing. Art is Creative practice and expression in all its forms. Creative expression should never be stifled and judged. When does someone creating art 'become' an artist ? This is a question open to very interesting discussion. 😊

Art is an act of creation. Creativity is an end in itself and is the product of the creator. It has value as such. What others think of it is not important. But, I believe the artist gets joy and encouragement to create more when others praise their work.

Most art do not get the appreciation until the artists is long dead so I guess as long as people appreciate it then it is art.

"My belief is that everyone wants to create art but actually one’s work should be recognized as piece of art.

The art history has shown to us that many masterpieces were born before their time and were unrecognized until later times. But that doesn't mean they are not art."

If you like it you do, if not, you don't. Pretty simple, like wine.

I wonder about that myself.

Spending millions on art is ridiculous! I would never pay that much! I don't see why other people would.

The artists intentions are relevant to his/her followers. They are interested in finding out the intention.

People decide what is art. If you like it, then you are appreciating art.
